1. Who we are
BarCarbon is an independent barrister practice affiliated with St Philips Chambers, providing counsel across intellectual property, brand protection, environmental and climate law in the United Kingdom. For the purposes of data protection law, BarCarbon is the data controller of personal information collected through this website.
You can contact us about anything in this policy at [email protected].
2. What information we collect
We collect only the information you choose to give us:
- Enquiry details — your name, email address and the content of your message when you use the enquiry form or email us directly.
- Correspondence — any further information you provide in the course of our communications.
- Technical data — our hosting provider may record standard server logs, such as IP addresses and browser type, for security and reliability purposes.
3. How we use your information
We use the information you provide to respond to your enquiry, to assess whether we can assist with a matter, and to communicate with you about instructions. We rely on our legitimate interests in operating a professional practice and, where you have given it, your consent. We do not use your information for marketing and we do not sell it to anyone.
4. Cookies and third-party services
This website does not set cookies and does not use analytics or advertising trackers.
The site loads the Inter and Playfair Display typefaces from Google Fonts. When the page loads, your browser requests these files from Google's servers, which involves the transfer of your IP address to Google. Details are available in Google's privacy policy.
5. How we share information
Enquiries are treated in confidence. We do not share your personal information with third parties except where necessary to operate this website (for example, our hosting provider), where you ask us to, or where we are required to do so by law or by our professional and regulatory obligations.
6. How long we keep information
We keep enquiry correspondence for as long as is necessary to deal with your enquiry and, where an enquiry leads to instructions, for as long as professional record-keeping obligations require. Information that is no longer needed is deleted securely.
7. Your rights
Under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 you have rights over your personal information, including the right to access it, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability. To exercise any of these rights, contact [email protected].
If you are unhappy with how your information has been handled, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be published on this page, with the date of the last revision shown above.
